Moss has been a pioneer of large-format printing and branded environments since its founding as MacroArt in 1992. The company enjoys an enviable reputation in the industry for several reasons, including a leading Cambridgeshire production hub, passion for excellence, an impressive client list and a keen attention on sustainability.
Freeman Clarke CIO Mike Robinson was brought in to develop and deliver a technology roadmap to support refined business objectives and also to provide technology leadership support to the management team.
Mike carried out an in-depth discovery exercise and delivered a comprehensive report. Together with the management team he shaped a suitable roadmap, balancing the desire to exploit short-term opportunities whilst adding medium/long-term value.
Some of Mike’s key efforts included:
✔ Helping the in-house team to accelerate a technically challenging ERP implementation..
✔ Upgrading legacy infrastructure platforms to simplify management and reduce risk.
✔ Introducing a PowerBI Executive dashboard, providing real-time business metrics and reducing manual effort in reporting.
✔ Coaching the internal IT team on project management and supplier management.
MacroArt was subsequently acquired by Moss Inc. in 2023. Bringing the two businesses together provided exciting opportunities for all parties, but as with any acquisition, there were tech challenges involved with the transition.
Mike’s initial in-depth discovery exercise was integral to the due-diligence process. Following completion, Mike’s previous experience of M&A ensured he was able to support the new US VP of Technology and introduction of groupwide strategy to the UK, e.g. a single M365 tenant and security management tools. The final part of the jigsaw was smoothing the transition to a new internal IT team which now has the systems and the confidence it needs to support and guide Moss as it continues to provide leading solutions in a creative, competitive industry.
Mike’s efforts, in short, helped to accelerate the integration of a disparate landscape of systems and processes, allowing for an easier transition and integration to the wider group and, as Moss moves forward, a more secure and manageable IT environment.
